Ex-Midshipman Reportedly Goes On Shooting Spree At Academy

The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. went into lockdown Thursday as law enforcement responded to what officials described as an active threat.
Naval Support Activity Annapolis, which oversees the Academy’s security, confirmed the lockdown to the Daily Caller News Foundation and said the response was being coordinated with local police agencies. A Naval Academy spokesperson told USNI News that the incident prompted an immediate shelter-in-place directive for all students, faculty, and staff.
“Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy. The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available,” Lt. Naweed Lemar said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Multiple sources told Fox News that a former midshipman who had been expelled from the academy allegedly returned to campus armed with a gun. Fox News host Bret Baier reported that witnesses said gunshots were heard inside one of the academy buildings, though no casualties had been confirmed. The individual reportedly knocked on doors while impersonating military police.
