The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of a family of eight – two adults and six children – after a house fire in Grand Haven Township. According to news reports, police are calling the deaths “suspicious.”

WXMI-TV (Fox 17 Grand Rapids) reported that county police and local firefighters found the family’s bodies inside their home on the 14900 block of Riverside Trail. The news outlet said authorities responded to a call around 11:40 a.m. Friday, July 24 reporting white smoke coming from the house.

Reports say first responders rushed to the area between 8:30 and 9 earlier that morning responding to 911 calls reporting smoke in the area, but deputies said they found no sign of fires or any smoke at the time.

The latest reports are that detectives were still on the scene, and Michigan State Police arson investigators are said to be assisting local authorities.

Officials say that more information will be released to the public as it becomes available.
