President Donald Trump said the United States may conduct expansive strikes on Iran after hostilities heated up in the region.

Speaking on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Turkey on Wednesday, Trump voiced his displeasure with Iran, emphasizing that recent strikes carried out by U.S. military forces may be a prelude to a larger offensive.

“There may be a big attack, and it will knock out a lot of stuff,” Trump told reporters.

He noted that infrastructure such as bridges, the electrical grid and desalinization plants were on the table as potential targets.

“If we have to, we will take them out,” the commander-in-chief warned.

Though he noted he would discuss it with the U.S. negotiating team, Trump stated that the preliminary peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran, which provided for a ceasefire, was over as far as he was concerned.

On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it struck more than 80 targets in the Islamic Republic in response to Iran attacking three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

“U.S. forces struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor,” CENTCOM stated.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth noted the targets included “anything used to harass shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.”

“And tonight if we need to, on your order Mr. President, we will hit even more and even deeper because that’s the consequence,” Hegseth said.

Beyond renewed strikes, Trump also reiterated that the U.S. may reimplement its blockade on Iranian ports.
