Walmart is lowering prices this summer, a move President Donald Trump said came at the request of his administration.

On Monday, the retailer announced it was dropping prices on several products, telling customers they could “expect savings across grocery, household essentials, outdoor living, toys and apparel.”

A Walmart spokesperson reportedly said the new prices had gone into effect last week.

Trump noted that his administration had asked Walmart to reduce prices in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

 

“Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday,” the president posted to Truth Social on Tuesday.

“Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products. This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A.,” Trump continued.

The company did not name Trump or his administration in its announcement, though it stated that product savings included $0.80 off a pound of ground beef, more than $5 off a 2.25 lb. bag of cherries, and several dollars off 24-packs of soft drinks.

“Customers count on Walmart to deliver the value they need every day, and summer is no exception,” said Julie Barber, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchant of Walmart U.S. “This summer, we’re making even more investments in price, with thousands of Rollbacks across the products customers are shopping for most including beef, fresh produce and beverages, grills, pools, toys and summer fashion apparel.”

According to CBS News, Walmart had announced earlier in the year that it had raised prices on certain products due to higher tariffs.

 

However, Trump claimed that prices had gone up under the previous Biden administration, which he blamed for “the worst inflation crisis in history.”

“My Administration is lowering prices that [former President] Joe Biden incompetently raised with the worst inflation crisis in history, a total disaster along with the Southern Border, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many other failures. Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices which I am bringing down by historic levels,” the commander-in-chief said.

“Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots. Together, we will make America stronger and greater than ever before,” he concluded.
