Regional tensions grow as US-Iran talks continue without deal
(NewsNation) — Explosions were heard in southern Lebanon Thursday despite a ceasefire being reached overnight with Israel.
A tentative contingent deal was reached between mediators in Washington on Wednesday, with a caveat that Iranian-backed Hezbollah would agree to a complete cessation of attacks. This all hinges upon Hezbollah stopping attacks on Israel and withdrawing to north of the Litani River. According to the international community, Hezbollah is not supposed to be operating south of there.
There were alerts going off in northern Israel in the hours after that announcement came out. Israel’s defense ministers said Thursday they will continue to operate as long as these tensions and attacks continue from the Hezbollah side.
Trump says attack on troops could restart war
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said Iran killing U.S. troops would be a good reason to restart the war.
The president also indicated he would consider meeting with Iran’s new supreme leader if a deal was made.
No ‘diplomatic lasting solution’: Bolton
Speaking with “NewsNation Live” Thursday, former national security adviser John Bolton said he does not believe there is a “lasting diplomatic solution” for the relationship between the U.S. and Iran.
“I think in the current circumstances what Trump is looking for is some kind of agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz to relieve pressure on international oil prices,” Bolton said. “I don’t think he’s looking at this in grand strategy terms, and with respect to the Middle East, I think he’s focused on the impact of where we are right now on the U.S. domestic political situation.”

Regional tensions grow as Bahrain and Kuwait are hit
This comes as the entire Gulf region is still reeling from a major escalation on the Iranian side, with attacks carried out this week on both Bahrain and Kuwait.
On Wednesday, Kuwait International Airport was struck by a drone attack, creating a massive explosion. Kuwaiti officials say one person was killed and over 60 were injured in those strikes, which included over two dozen drones and missiles combined.
‘Get something done in writing’: Trump
President Donald Trump was asked about this flare-up, which is larger than the ones documented in recent days.
“We’ve been hitting them pretty hard, a little bit. So, there is a reason for certain things. The negotiation itself has gone very well, actually,” Trump said. “If we can get something done in writing, which will accomplish the same thing without killing everybody, I’d like to do that.”
Trump doesn’t want to resume an all-out war: WSJ
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported Trump told members of his staff he doesn’t want to resume an all-out war with Iran unless U.S. service members in the region are being killed. NewsNation is working to confirm this reporting.
On the other side of the coin, Iran’s new supreme leader has yet to be seen, but he is speaking out. In a statement put out by Iranian state media Thursday, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said, “The malicious enemy has been defeated in its confrontation with the Armed Forces.”
Both the American and Iranian sides have said negotiations are still taking place behind the scenes, with mediators pressing forward, leaving some hope that a deal can still be struck.
