(NewsNation) — The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has rejected offers from the United Cajun Navy to assist in the search for Nancy Guthrie, according to the organization’s vice president.

On Monday, Brian Trascher joined “Katie Pavlich Tonight,” where he said bids for the volunteer search and rescue group to help in the search for the missing 84-year-old have been turned down. Guthrie has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home since Feb. 1.

Trascher said the United Cajun Navy submitted a detailed plan to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos outlining how the group could aid in the search for Guthrie.

“We really felt strongly that there was a good chance that she could have ended up somewhere along the border,” Trasher said.

He said the United Cajun Navy was prepared to deploy K-9 and drone teams in the area to help bring “some closure” to the Guthrie family.

Why was the United Cajun Navy turned away from the Nancy Guthrie search?

Trascher told Katie Pavlich there was a blanket decision by the sheriff’s office to not accept any outside help, despite broader frustration over how the case has been handled. In the early days of the investigation, FBI Director Kash Patel told NewsNation the agency was kept away from the crime scene until four days after Guthrie was reported missing.

Trascher said the United Cajun Navy has significant search and rescue resources, along with partner groups in the area willing to help.

“We have a lot of good resources we could have brought to the area,” he said. “Other partner groups that we work with in the area are willing to come to the area and help us search.”

“But for some reason, they just decided they were not going to take the outside help,” Trascher said. “So we just kind of went back to what we’re doing.”
