(NewsNation) — Democratic Senator John Fetterman isn’t concerned about President Donald Trump using his authority to decide the level of the United States’ involvement in Iran.

Fetterman, of Pennsylvania, joined “CUOMO” on Tuesday night, as the president weighs whether to strike Iran or take other measures after it killed hundreds of its citizens who protested the regime.

The senator said he agreed with the Trump administration’s bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites in 2025 and the recent capture of now-former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

“The president, I don’t care if it’s a Democrat, Republican, whoever, I think it’s entirely appropriate for him or her to have the flexibility to do these kinds of strategic actions that (are) in America’s interests,” Fetterman said.

Iran, responding to speculation that the U.S. might intervene, says it remains open to diplomacy but is “prepared for war.”

Trump has said Tehran has reached out to negotiate a possible nuclear deal. A source with the administration told NewsNation the president has a range of options as he weighs a final decision.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Iran’s public rhetoric diverges from the private messaging the administration has received from Tehran in recent days.

Amid the unrest, the Trump administration urged U.S. citizens to leave Iran immediately.
