Ex-mobster: Diddy will have friends behind bars

(NewsNation) — Former mobster Michael Franzese believes Sean “Diddy” Combs will have “more friends than enemies” in prison.
Franzese, an ex-capo in the Colombo crime family, joined “Banfield” to discuss the 50-month prison sentence handed down to Combs by a federal judge Friday.
It comes three months after Comes was convicted on a pair of prostitution-related charges but escaped RICO charges that could have put him behind bars for life. His lawyers say they will appeal Friday’s sentence.
“Obviously, he’s disappointed, although he really shouldn’t be,” Franzese said of Diddy, who has been in a New York City jail for the last 13 months.
“I think he did very well with respect to all of the drama and all of the circumstance around this trial. There was a lot of bad stuff out there, and I’m not saying I’m not passing judgment on that, but it just looked really bad, and he could have gotten up to 10 years or 11 years.”
According to the Federal Defenders of New York, appeals generally take about a year. Franzese believes Combs will not reside in a prison camp due to his high profile, but will have a more comfortable time behind bars than others.
“My feeling is he’ll get into at least a medium [security prison], because he’s so high profile,” Franzese said.
“In a medium security, normally, nobody’s looking to shank you. When you get into the higher institutions, when people are doing, a ton of time, and there’s no way you can benefit them, then you got a little more problem,” he added.
Given Combs’ wealth and possibility of a medium security prison, Franzese contends he will not “have an isue at all.
“He can be too much of a benefit to inmates that are always looking for something, and he could be a golden ticket for some people, at least in their mind.”
