President Donald Trump will make sure American interests are protected in resolving the Ukraine-Russia war and that U.S. allies do the right thing, Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., told Newsmax on Monday.

Spartz, who was born in Ukraine, told "American Agenda" that Trump "is a good negotiator ... [and] a strong leader ...  and that is why he was elected, because the American people were tired of bad leadership."

Spartz's comments came as Trump said there was progress in bringing the conflict to a peaceful end and for a deal for the U.S. to have rights to Ukraine's critical minerals to help offset the money and equipment that the U.S. has given to Kyiv.

Spartz said Trump "will make sure American interests are protected and that our allies do the right thing and will put their money where their mouth is." 

Spartz added that Trump will do whatever it takes to stop the war.

"Unfortunately, Ukrainians have been paying a very high price for bad leaders that they elected," Spartz said.

The congresswoman said that at least Trump "will help to subside rather than escalate that war, which could escalate even further."

She said that the Ukrainian people are tired and exhausted but that they have much to be proud of, as it is difficult to describe the bravery of the military and the populace that it took to stop an invasion of such a scale from a power like Russia, especially since there was not much help.

"The loss of life, the destruction, the tragedy of the people is hard to describe," Spartz said. "Unfortunately, to win wars, you need to have leaders that know how to win, not try not to lose and become oligarchs themselves.That's a challenge that you have with most post-Soviet republics. It is hard to get back to freedoms and democracy."
