Trump Reverses ICE Traffic Stop Pause

President Donald Trump has reversed a temporary pause on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement traffic stops, ABC News reported.

The decision allows the enforcement tactic to resume, according to an unnamed source familiar with the matter who spoke with the network.

The pause had been ordered by Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin after two fatal shootings involving ICE agents, one in Maine and the other in Texas.

That directive instructed ICE agents to end the use of vehicle stops and prioritize other immigration enforcement methods. Multiple sources told the network the pause was intended to be temporary.

During the pause, vehicle stops remained permissible when conducted with local law enforcement officers participating in ICE's 287(g) program.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson declined to discuss law enforcement tactics but told ABC the department continually evaluates its procedures to protect officers and keep criminals off the streets.

The directive follows an earlier Truth Social post by Trump about the issue.

"we CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.'s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP! ... I.C.E., be judicious, fair and smart," Trump wrote, "and go back and do your very important job. Keep those Crime Stat Records coming! Remember, you are loved and respected in America."

The president also used the post to criticize what he described as liberal policies opening the doors of America to make it easy for criminal illegals to enter the country.

"The Open Border Policy of Sleepy Joe Biden allowed 25,000,000 people to pour into our Country," Trump wrote, "unchecked and unvetted. Many were Criminals, and we have to get them out. In order to do this, we must be strong, tough, and smart, and we CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP! Once we do, we are playing right into the criminal’s hands."
