Time Magazine omitted the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk from its 2025 "Year in Review" cover and top stories list.

The cover includes photos of President Donald Trump, pop star Taylor Swift, primatologist Mary Jane Goodall, Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, firefighters battling the Los Angeles wildfires, an AI computer chip, and singer and songwriter Ozzy Osbourne.

Kirk, 31, was killed Sept. 10 when he was shot in the neck during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.

He was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative nonprofit that has grown into one of the most visible and active youth political groups in the U.S., with thousands of campus chapters and frequent national events and conferences designed to educate and engage young conservatives.

ABC News featured Kirk's death as one of its top stories. Google's top stories for 2025 centered heavily on the shocking assassination of Kirk, leading search trends alongside news of a major U.S. government shutdown, a new pope, and significant AI advancements from Google, while viral trends included the "Labubu" toy and "ditalini" pasta.
