Randy Fine to Newsmax: Domestic Extremists Pose Growing Threat to America

Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., said Wednesday that Americans should not underestimate the threat posed by domestic extremists, arguing that individuals who appear isolated or insignificant can still pose serious dangers after federal authorities disrupted an alleged terror plot targeting public officials and others attending the White House UFC fight on Sunday.

Fine, who represents Florida's 6th Congressional District and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the remarks in an interview on Newsmax's "National Report" while discussing the arrests of suspects allegedly connected to a planned attack targeting government officials, including members of Congress.

The Florida Republican praised law enforcement officials for thwarting the alleged plot and expressed gratitude to the mother of one suspect who reportedly alerted authorities.

"On behalf of this Jewish person and my Jewish son, I'm very grateful to FBI Director Kash Patel, the Secret Service and everyone involved in catching this," Fine said. "And I want to thank that mother. I think that we should bear reflecting. It cannot be difficult to turn your own son in. But she did the right thing, and she should be applauded for that."

Fine said he attended the White House event Sunday with his sons and felt secure despite concerns raised after details of the alleged plot became public.

"I felt incredibly safe at the event," Fine said. "The security was over the top, as it always is when you go to the White House."

While discussing the suspects, Fine described them as individuals who had become radicalized online and warned that Americans often dismiss such threats because the suspects do not fit traditional images of organized terrorist operatives.

"These are basement dwellers. These are like losers in life, right?" Fine said. "They live in their mothers' basements. They're online. They're on these chats, talking this and that about Jews. And we're going to overthrow the government. We're going after Trump and Epstein."

Asked whether Americans underestimate the domestic terror threat, Fine responded, "Well, I unfortunately do."

The congressman said the alleged plot did not surprise him because of threats he says he regularly receives.

"I've been in politics for ten years," Fine said. "There are three people who have been arrested, prosecuted and put in prison for making exactly these kinds of threats against me. Same kind losers who live in their parents' basements, who want someone to blame for their life. I get a death threat every day."

"So this happens to me all of the time," he added. "And I think it is a problem in our society. And frankly, I don't think we take it seriously enough."

The congressman also argued that online propaganda and extremist messaging can influence Americans and contribute to radicalization.

"I think we have to look at how this propagandizing from overseas affects our American folks and makes them hate their fellow Americans and act in this way," Fine said.

He added that the arrests should reinforce the importance of continued vigilance by law enforcement and security agencies.

"Hopefully this creates a renewed sense of security for the government, for members of Congress and others knowing there are these crazy people out there," Fine said.
