An Idaho woman who publicly claimed her 18-month-old twins died after routine childhood vaccinations has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.

The Payette Police Department announced last week that a Payette County grand jury returned an indictment on June 29 charging 23-year-old Andrea Shaw with two counts of first-degree murder.

Police said Boise officers arrested Shaw on June 30 "without incident" following what the department described as "a lengthy and thorough investigation."

"Because this case is now pending before the court, the Payette Police Department will have no further comment regarding the facts of the case or the evidence," Police Chief Gary A. Marshall said in a statement.

"Future information will be presented through the judicial process."

Police also stressed that "the charges contained in the indictment are allegations, and Shaw is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."

Shaw is being held on a $2 million bond. If convicted of first-degree murder, she could face life in prison or the death penalty. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 14.

Defense attorney Joseph Filicetti told reporters Shaw "denies anything and everything" and argued that "the state cannot prove" the charges.

"We will defend her with wholeheartedness," he said.

Filicetti also told KTVB in Boise he continues to believe the twins died from vaccinations rather than foul play.

"They were looking at it as a vaccine death, and that's still what I believe it to be," Filicetti said.

"I'm not a medical expert, but the medical experts I have, [they] go through a series of [steps] when looking at different complications."

Shaw gained national attention after appearing on a Children's Health Defense podcast in May 2025, where she claimed the twins became ill after receiving routine immunizations.

"They had got their shots at the same time by two nurses at the same time," Shaw said during the interview.

"And they got sick."

Medical experts have said the vaccines Shaw referenced, hepatitis A, influenza and DTaP, are safe, effective and recommended for children by major medical organizations.

According to the indictment, four witnesses testified before the grand jury, including three Payette Police officers and a pediatric intensive care physician from St. Luke's.
