While liberal media outlets often highlight President Donald Trump's disapproval versus approval ratings, a new Harvard-Harris poll released Monday shows Trump is actually outperforming Congress by a significant 19 points.

Translation: Congress is far more unpopular with America's registered voters.

While Trump's 47% approval remains just slightly underwater by 2 points against 49% disapproval, the congressional job approval in the poll is far worse at a net-negative 21 points (35% approval and 56% disapproval).

Modern politics has produced polling in which both presidents and Congress frequently register deep net-negative ratings, as criticism has become more common than support.

But Trump's outperforming Congress by a wide margin in poll from Harvard — often considered a left-leaning institution — is notable when contrasted with another survey released Monday.

Even longtime conservative stalwart pollster Rasmussen Reports on Monday has Trump a net-negative 12 approval (43% approve, 55% disapprove).

Similarly, Trump's numbers in the Harvard-Harris polling also outperform his Rasmussen numbers on "direction of the country."

Harvard-Harris is 9 points more Trump-friendly on that question, with 39% saying the U.S. is going in the "right direction" under Trump (net-negative 13 points, with 52% saying "wrong track"). Rasmussen's poll has Trump at 36% on "right direction" and 58% "wrong track" for a net-negative 22 points.

The Harvard Center for American Political Studies, alng with the pollsters at The Harris X Poll and HarrisX, surveyed 2,204 registered voters Dec. 2-4. The margin of error for the full sample was plus or minus 1.99 percentage points.
