State Republican parties are reportedly using the Republican National Committee's first-ever midterm convention to raise money for GOP candidates, offering supporters premium ticket packages to attend the Sept. 9-10 gathering in Dallas centered on President Donald Trump's midterm message.
The event, dubbed "Trumpapalooza" by RNC Chair Joe Gruters, will differ from a traditional national convention by focusing on rallying Republicans rather than conducting party business or voting on resolutions.
According to Politico, the RNC encouraged state parties to use the convention to raise funds for candidates in their home states.
Among the highest-priced offerings is a $250,000 "golden VIP member" package from the California Republican Party, which includes four convention floor badges, four hotel rooms, hotel transfers, and concierge service. The state party is also selling $10,000 "VIP Delegate" tickets, $7,500 alternate delegate passes and $5,000 balcony guest tickets.
In Texas, the Denton County Republican Party is offering supporters the chance to become "honorary delegates" for $20,000.
"It's not just a convention. We're not going to be voting on anything. This is to rally the troops," Denton County GOP Chair Melinda Preston told Politico. "This is to get funds in so that we can help candidates. This is to get our people ... across the finish line in November."
Texas is expected to host one of the nation's marquee Senate races, with Attorney General Ken Paxton running against state Rep. James Talarico, a Democrat.
California GOP Communications Director Matt Shupe called the Dallas gathering the "Super Bowl of politics," saying attendees will have "the opportunity to mix and mingle and be around ... celebrities, politicians, other supporters and leaders."
Shupe said proceeds from California ticket sales will be used to help Republican candidates in the midterm elections.
"This is an opportunity to be part of a historic national Republican event while also helping fund the work we must do here at home," Shupe told Politico. "California will have a pivotal role in 2026, and we need the resources to compete, protect our seats, expand the map ... and defeat Democrats."
Other state parties are offering lower-cost options. The Michigan Republican Party is reportedly charging $10,000 for couples or $7,500 for individuals to attend as honorary delegates, while Alabama ticket packages range from $1,300 to $1,500, excluding travel and lodging.
Preston said supporters who cannot afford tickets can still participate by volunteering.
"Trump has the ability to unite and to bring people out and to get people excited, and that's exactly what this is for," Preston said. "This is to remind people that there is an election and that this is a big election, and to encourage people to get their neighbors, to get their family, to get ... their friends, and get to the polls in November."
Trump has said the convention will focus on sharpening the GOP's message heading into the midterm elections while featuring "great entertainment."
The RNC approved a rule change in January allowing the party to hold its first national midterm convention outside a presidential election year.
