California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday signed a set of bills aimed at countering the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

They include:

  • Assembly Bill 49, which prohibits Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers being on school campuses without a warrant.
  • Senate Bill 627, which prohibits federal and local law enforcement officers from wearing face masks while conducting their duties.
  • Senate Bill 805, which requires that ICE agents identify themselves while conducting their duties, with some exceptions.
  • Senate Bill 81, which prohibits ICE agents from entering restricted areas of a health facility without a judicial warrant or court order.
  • And Senate Bill 98, which requires schools and higher education institutions to send community notifications when ICE agents are on campus and prohibits ICE agents from entering certain areas without a judicial warrant or court order.

"Immigrants have rights, and we have the right to stand up and push back," Newsom said at an event in Los Angeles where he signed the bills.

ICE has deported nearly 200,000 people since President Donald Trump took office, according to a senior Homeland Security official who spoke with CNN in late August.
