Trump Lashes Out at 'Loser' Massie, Vows to Primary Him

President Donald Trump lashed out at Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., on his Truth Social platform Tuesday, after the Kentucky lawmaker brushed off the president's vow to back a primary challenger against him.

"Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, a phenomenal State that I won all three times (by a lot!), keeps talking about how he is going to protect the Constitution, but he is actually very bad for the Constitution, and will probably vote against 'THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,'" Trump wrote in a Truth Social post early Tuesday.

Trump then launched into a litany of provisions that the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" would fund — including border security, tax cuts, and the Golden Dome — before complaining that Massie is "against all of the above, and many other incredible things."

The libertarian-leaning Massie voted with Democrats against the budget reconciliation measure last month when it narrowly passed the House. The legislation is currently being considered by the Senate, and the House would need to vote on any changes proposed by the upper chamber. Congressional lawmakers are up against a July 4 deadline to have the bill on Trump's desk for signature.

"Why would anyone want to vote for a so-called 'Congressman,' a RINO, at best, who wants to raise your Taxes by 68 [percent], which is what will happen if, 'THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL' doesn't pass," the president continued, likely referring to almost two-thirds of U.S. households that could see a tax increase if the 2017 tax cuts expire this year.

Citing tax policy analysts, The Hill reported that the tax increases would be around 7.5%, on average.

"He votes, 'NO!' on everything, because he thinks it makes him cool, but he's not cool, he's a LOSER!" Trump railed.

Trump and Massie have been trading barbs in recent days over the massive tax-cuts-and-spending package, which the Republican congressman has warned will add trillions to the national debt in the next 10 years.

Following the Trump-ordered airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday, Massie criticized the president for failing to obtain congressional approval beforehand, calling the military action unconstitutional.

On Sunday, Trump tore into Massie, urging his MAGA movement to oust the Republican from Capitol Hill.

"MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!" the president wrote Sunday in a post on Truth Social. "The good news is that we will have a wonderful American Patriot running against him in the Republican Primary, and I'll be out in Kentucky campaigning really hard."

"MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one," Trump added.

In a Monday interview with MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes," Massie seemingly dismissed the president's targeted attacks, saying he has "the Trump antibodies."

"There are a few people here who are consistent and don't sway in the wind when it's your president or somebody else's president, and I'm just trying to be consistent here in this case," Massie said.

Representing Kentucky's 4th congressional district, Massie handily won reelection last year, defeating two primary challengers. He was first elected to Congress in 2012 and is seeking a seventh term in 2026.
