Rep. Perry to Newsmax: Musk's Productivity Email 'Puts Everybody on Notice'

Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., told Newsmax Monday that Elon Musk's email to federal workers asking them about their productivity for the week may have been "semiofficial," but he thinks it "puts everybody on notice" that the American people expect results from their government.

Musk, the chair of the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency initiative, sent an email to the federal workforce through the Office of Personnel Management that asked employees to submit approximately five bullet points of what they accomplished last week.

"I think it's a shot across the bow, and I quite honestly think the American people that get up every day, pack a lunch, and head off to work appreciate it," Perry said on "Newsline." "They have to produce something every day for their employer to justify their job, to justify their paycheck, and they probably like to see what all this money that is going to $1 trillion additional in debt every 100 days, they'd like to see how that's accounted for and what they're getting for it."

"So, I think Elon is asking, it may be kind of tongue-in-cheek, it might be semiofficial, but it puts everybody on notice," he said. "We expect good things from our government. We expect that you're earning your keep, that you're providing value. And if you're not, that doesn't mean that anybody is mad at you, but it might mean that obviously you're part of the excessive portion of government that each person, whether you work in government or not, knows exists."

Perry also commented on a new Harvard/Harris poll that found the majority of Americans are more satisfied with President Donald Trump versus former President Joe Biden in the one month that the former has been back in office. Trump's approval rating was 52%, according to the survey, with 42% of voters saying the country is on the right track — a 14-point increase since January.

"It is indeed a lot of movement in a short amount of time, and the American people sense the urgency — that's why they're happy," he said. "And look, we don't think that [Apple CEO] Tim Cook has suddenly become a big Trump fan, but we realize that Trump has used the leverage that he has as president of the United States — with the marketplace of the United States — to say, 'Look, if you want to sell stuff here, if you want to be headquartered here, then you should support America. America is your home. America is where your business lies, and you can't abandon us and go elsewhere, especially to our enemies and adversaries. And if you do, there's going to be a cost to pay for that.'"

"The American people appreciate that," Perry continued. "The ones that don't are picking a side with inefficiency, with wasteful spending, and if that's where they want to be, there is a vocal minority, but we'll take those odds every single day. The president is doing what the American people have asked him to do."
