Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Monday he applauds President Donald Trump for continuing to do something about the nuclear threat Iran poses.
"Thank God we have a president that is willing to defend American lives," Scott said on "Rob Schmitt Tonight."
"They've been killing us for 47 years. They've been trying to build a nuclear weapon," he said.
"And when they get it, you know, every American is at risk in the United States. Trump is holding them accountable," Scott continued.
"Is it easy? No. Nobody wants to go to war. This president doesn't want to go to war," he said.
"Nobody wants to lose a serviceman or -woman's life. My heart goes out to their families," Scott continued.
"But this president is going to defend us. He's going to make sure that Iran cannot continue to kill us."
He said Trump was doing the right thing in keeping Iran from a nuclear weapon.
"They could blackmail anybody. It's what North Korea tries to do and what [Russian President Vladimir] Putin threatens with," Scott said.
"It would completely destabilize first the Middle East but actually the world, because the regime in Iran, they're crazy. They're absolutely insane with what they want to accomplish," he added.
"And so, thank God they don't have a nuclear weapon. They're not going to have one while Trump is president."
