Republicans risk dampening voter enthusiasm ahead of the November midterm elections if they fail to translate their congressional majorities into legislative victories, polling expert Patrick Allocco said Monday, arguing on Newsmax that turnout could hinge on whether GOP voters believe the party has delivered results.
Allocco, founder of the Zoose Political Index, told "Finnerty" that many Republican voters are frustrated after nearly two years of GOP control of both chambers of Congress.
"More than you may think," Allocco said when asked how the lack of legislative accomplishments could affect Republicans in November. "Look at the SAVE America Act. It's hard for Republicans to understand why, when they control the House and the Senate, a bill that's broadly popular cannot get pushed to the president's desk."
"It's frustrating," he continued. "Voters don't care about procedure. They care about results. In four months, they will ask, you had the power. What did you do with it? If that question falls flat, it hurts enthusiasm. And in the midterms, enthusiasm is everything."
Host Rob Finnerty noted that Congress has passed one major piece of legislation during President Donald Trump's second term — the One Big Beautiful Bill — while contrasting it with several major measures enacted during former President Joe Biden's administration.
Pollster Dustin Olson of American Pulse Research and Polling agreed that legislative accomplishments matter, particularly in motivating Republican voters who are less likely to participate in elections.
"People are going to vote party line, but it's all about turnout," Olson said. "If you don't get results, people are not going to be enthused. It's going to be much harder."
Olson said the Republican coalition has expanded over the past decade but includes many "low-propensity voters" who need a reason to cast ballots.
"Results are the kinds of things that do get people to turn out," he said. "I work in politics. I am a pollster. I am registered as a Republican, though I'm not particularly partisan. But I look at this and I think the same thing: 80% support it. I know that it's difficult to get it done legislatively, but it ticks me off."
Asked about the historical tendency for the president's party to lose House seats in midterm elections, Olson said Republicans still have a path to retaining control of Congress.
"I've said for a while that I think the trend is going to continue, that the party will probably lose some seats," Olson said. "However, it's not going to be anything like what some people make it out to be. Could Republicans hold the majority? It's possible."
