House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told fellow Republicans he would have their back if Democrats retake the lower chamber in the 2026 midterm elections.
"I run the protection program; I'll take care of you," Johnson said Friday at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's annual Road to Majority conference. "Half of you will be targeted."
"If we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats, impeachment's not even the big concern," he added.
"They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body and they will go after the president's family, the Cabinet, his donors, and friends," Johnson continued.
Johnson said the stakes for the midterms have never been higher after victories this past Tuesday by democratic socialists in New York City.
"This is a midterm unlike any other," Johnson said. "Not only because of the threats that we face that are very real and must be confronted, but it's because of a lot of reasons on paper why we should win."
The speaker touted the accomplishments of the Republican caucus, noting that the lawmakers have passed 700 bills and codified 100 executive orders.
"All the great things we've done for hardworking American families," Johnson said. "Pro-family policies and pro-life policies."
He added, "Over half of Democrats say they want to live in another country. Go. We can't deport that many."
He also noted that Republicans have a fundraising advantage over Democrats for the first time in 10 years.
The Faith & Freedom Coalition is an evangelical group that has supported Trump and the Republican Party.
