Matt Schlapp, chair of the Conservative Political Action Conference, told Newsmax on Wednesday that recent political shifts in Georgia have moved the state into the "lean Republican" column, in his view.
On "The Record With Greta Van Susteren," Schlapp said that Rep. Mike Collins, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, has a good shot at defeating Sen. Jon Ossoff, who is seeking a second term.
"If Mike Collins can show that Jon Ossoff votes the same way that the far left votes in the Senate, and he does, and takes away this mirage that he's kind of like a Southern, more moderate version of the woke socialist Democratic Party, he's got actually a very decent chance to win," Schlapp said.
The CPAC chair said the Peach State's voting tendencies appear to be shifting, if only slightly.
"I think Georgia has kind of sprung back to be lean Republican," Schlapp said.
Ossoff's reelection campaign launched a new television advertisement on Wednesday, seeking to portray nominee Collins as a wealthy political insider who has sided with President Donald Trump and corporate interests over working-class voters.
The ad came a day after Collins defeated former college football coach Derek Dooley in a Senate primary runoff, securing the Republican nomination to challenge Ossoff in one of the nation's most closely watched Senate races this fall.
