Rep. Mark Harris, R-N.C., told Newsmax the deal President Donald Trump worked out with Iran to end the military conflict is solely based on expected "performance and action."
Appearing on "National Report" Wednesday, Harris said that he is confident in the potential success of the agreement since he believes its foundation is not "words on a page."
Harris said Trump has been clear from the start to Americans — and the world — that "this is going to be about performance and action."
Harris said like many people, he's also had concerns about whether Iran can abide by an agreement.
"We've all had the same skepticism," he said, "and that is that you can't trust the Iranians. We know that they lie. We know that they mislead."
Harris said Americans need to have trust in the president.
"President Trump is well aware of that situation, and I have a great deal of confidence in where we are right now that this is going to get done and that we're going to move into this 60-day process," said Harris.
"And the president's been very, very clear about what is at stake and what has to be done, and mainly that this is not going to be about words on a page. This is going to be about performance and action," he added.
He said claims that part of the deal involves U.S. funds to the tune of $300 billion going to Iran are untrue.
"That is something that is out there in the future," he said, "That would be investment by those Arab states — the Gulf coalition that's been put together — that would be able to make investment in rebuilding the nation of Iran."
He offered that Trump has verified that no U.S. funding will be involved.
"The president has made it clear he's not going to invest 10 cents in Iran. There won't be any taxpayer dollars going into Iran to this regime," Harris said.
Harris posted on X, "This regime must never obtain a nuclear weapon, its highly enriched uranium must be safely removed or destroyed, and the Strait of Hormuz must remain [open] …"
He called the deal "an important step toward lasting peace, greater stability in the Middle East, and ensuring Iran can no longer hold the world economy hostage."
