The Rev. Franklin Graham on Sunday paid tribute to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., remembering him as a devoted public servant and urging Americans to pray for his family following his death.

Franklin Graham said Lindsey Graham, who died Saturday night after what was described as a brief and sudden illness, dedicated his life to serving South Carolina and the nation through both military and public service.

"I was surprised and saddened to learn that Senator Lindsey Graham passed away yesterday," Franklin Graham wrote in a post on X. "He had just been to Ukraine and was scheduled to be interviewed on @NBC @MeetThePress this morning. Only God knows the number of our days on this earth."

Franklin Graham noted that Lindsey Graham served more than two decades in the U.S. Senate after serving in the House of Representatives. He also highlighted the senator's military career, saying Graham served 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve before retiring as a colonel in 2015.

The evangelist also asked for prayers for Graham's loved ones, particularly his sister.

"Please pray for Senator Graham's family, especially for his sister Darline, who he helped raise when their parents both passed away," Franklin Graham wrote.

He praised Graham's dedication to his home state and the country.

"He was known as a strong fighter for his state of SC and his country, and he will be greatly missed," Franklin Graham said.

Lindsey Graham's death prompted tributes from political leaders, colleagues, and public figures across the country, who remembered him for his decades of service in Congress, his military career, and his prominent role in national security and foreign policy debates.
