Political analyst Patrick Allocco said Jewish Democratic voters are increasingly feeling politically isolated as divisions within the Democratic Party over Israel deepen following a House vote to cut U.S. military spending for Israel.
Speaking on Newsmax TV's "America Right Now," Allocco described the vote on July 15 by more than 100 House Democrats to block billions of dollars in military aid to Israel — an ultimately unsuccessful effort that highlighted the growing divisions in their party on the issue — as part of a broader political shift that has accelerated since Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
"What we're watching right now is a historical moment unfold," Allocco said.
"Many Jewish Democrats, this has become a story of abandonment, betrayal in some communities, and almost political homelessness."
Allocco said Jewish voters have long formed one of the Democratic Party's most reliable constituencies, tracing that relationship back to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal during the Great Depression.
He said many Jewish Americans were drawn to Roosevelt's agenda because of its support for urban immigrants, religious pluralism, and organized labor, helping forge a political alliance that endured for generations.
"These are voters who helped build one of the Democratic Party's most enduring coalitions," Allocco said. "It goes back to FDR."
He argued that recent developments represent a dramatic departure from that history, saying some Jewish Democrats increasingly view the party's posture toward Israel as inconsistent with their expectations.
"For the first time you're seeing something that is just completely anathema to them — the abandonment of the party," Allocco said.
He linked the shift to the aftermath of Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which killed about 1,200 people and sparked Israel's military campaign in Gaza. The conflict has intensified debate within the Democratic Party, where progressive lawmakers have become increasingly critical of Israel's military operations and U.S. military assistance, citing concerns about civilian casualties and the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Allocco pointed to public opinion research as evidence that Democratic attitudes toward Israel have changed in recent years.
"I think some of the research is showing us, if you look at Pew Research, you can see an incredible transformation over the last few years on Democrats' view of Israel," he said.
The House vote underscored continuing divisions in Congress over U.S. policy toward Israel, an issue that has grown increasingly contentious as the war in Gaza has continued.
The debate has exposed ideological differences within the Democratic caucus, with some lawmakers advocating reductions or conditions on military aid to Israel while others argue continued support remains essential to Israel's security and longstanding U.S. foreign policy.
Allocco said those divisions could have lasting political consequences by reshaping one of the Democratic Party's most dependable voting blocs.
