Trump: GOP, Not 'Dumocrats,' Will Be Dumb on Fillbuster

President Donald Trump, who has taken to referring to Democrats as "Dumocrats," predicted Friday that it will be Republicans who will look dumb should the left retake control of the Senate and end the filibuster rule.

Trump wrote a scathing Truth Social post announcing he won't sign the bipartisan housing bill.

He said he's protesting Senate Republicans' refusal to end the filibuster to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, known as the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and a photo ID to cast ballots.

Trump said Democrats would eliminate the 60-vote filibuster "in their very first hour" and Republicans would look bad for not doing the same to pass key legislation such as the voter ID bill.

"The Dumocrats will TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, if and when they ever get the chance to do so, in their very first hour — And I will no longer be able to call them Dumocrats again!" Trump wrote. "The title of DUMB will revert to the Republicans who allowed this horrible calamity to happen to our Party, and our Nation, itself!"

The housing package, formally titled the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, passed the Senate 85-5 and the House 358-32 after months of bipartisan negotiations led by House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill, R-Ark.; Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott, R-S.C.; and Democrat lawmakers.

It includes provisions to encourage new home construction, expand manufactured housing, ease mortgage lending through community financial institutions, and limit large institutional investors from purchasing more than 350 single-family homes.

Trump has called the housing bill "a yawn" compared with the SAVE America Act, which he has repeatedly described as essential to protecting election integrity ahead of November's midterm elections. He canceled a June signing ceremony for the bill.

"I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, which is polling at 97% with the Republican Party, and very high with the non-politician Dumocrats," Trump wrote.

"The Act states, quite simply, that to Vote a person must show PHOTO VOTER I.D., PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP, AND THAT THERE WILL BE NO MORE CROOKED, CORRUPT, & DESTABILIZING MAIL-IN BALLOTS (EXCEPTIONS for Military, Disabled, Illness, and Travel!)," he continued.

"THE SAVE AMERICA ACT’S non-passage is CRAZY, and a serious threat to any politician who votes against it!"

Because Trump has neither signed nor vetoed the bill and because the Constitution's 10-day review period, excluding Sundays, expires at midnight Saturday, it will automatically become law if he takes no action before the deadline.
