Rep. Kustoff to Newsmax: Constituents 'Concerned' About Elections

Rep. David Kustoff, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Tuesday that his constituents are worried about election security in America.

"I do hear a lot about this from my constituents," Kustoff told "Bianca Across The Nation." "They are concerned about the sanctity of our election process."

He noted that the concerns are mostly directed at other states.

"Fortunately, in Tennessee, we have really good, administered elections," he said. "One reason is we require a photo ID to show that you are who you are before you vote."

But in other states where controls are not as rigid, Kustoff said there are questions about election integrity.

"People are concerned about this across the country," he said.

Kustoff said he supports House Speaker Mike Johnson's attempts to work the SAVE America Act into a legislative package to force a vote in the Senate. "Whatever legislative mechanism that Speaker Johnson can use to get the Save America Act before the Senate so that they're forced to vote on it one way or the other, we should do that," he said.

House Republicans are exploring a procedural budget maneuver to advance President Donald Trump's election reform agenda. Party leaders are working to overcome Senate problems facing one of the GOP's top legislative priorities.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Republicans are considering creating a federal grant program that would reward states for adopting provisions from the SAVE America Act, arguing the spending component could allow the measure to qualify for budget reconciliation.

Kustoff pointed to the supportive push by President Donald Trump as more evidence there is strong GOP backing for the legislation.

"President Trump is right, and the people across the country are right," Kustoff said. "They want this. There are parts of it that are very, very popular with all parties. And so, we should get it done."
