Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Monday it is time for the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act.

On "Rob Schmitt Tonight," Gill criticized a Supreme Court ruling that upheld state laws allowing some mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day but received after Election Day to be counted.

"We have Election Day for a reason. It's because we count our ballots, we count our votes on a single day," Gill said. "We have a long tradition in history of doing that in America. This is definitely unfortunate."

"It shows the importance of getting commonsense legislation like the SAVE America Act through both the House and the Senate to get it to the president's desk," Gill added. "Because I think the American people are tired of this stuff."

"They're tired of not being comfortable with the way elections are run across the country, and we can do a lot to help assuage those concerns with the SAVE America Act," Gill continued.

The SAVE America Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. The Senate has been unable to pass the bill because Republicans have been unable to secure the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster.

"The ball is in the Senate's court. You know, we did our job in the House," Gill said. "We passed the bill out of the House twice.

"What we need is the Senate to recognize how important this legislation is and that the importance of this legislation far outweighs arcane Senate rules," he added.

"The Senate operating the way it has done for the past couple decades using the zombie filibuster, they can get the SAVE America Act passed out of the Senate with a talking filibuster without changing Senate rules," Gill continued.

"The vast majority of Americans want to see them do that. That includes, by the way, Democrats outside of Washington."
