Charles Stewart, who goes by "Snake the Bigfoot Hunter," claimed during a Saturday appearance on Newsmax's "Saturday Agenda" that he recovered what he described as the decomposing body of an 8-foot, 300-pound Bigfoot in New York's Adirondack Mountains, though he did not present independently verified evidence to support the claim.
Stewart said the specimen, which he has nicknamed "Dac," was found near Old Forge "lying in a bed of poison ivy" and was removed with the help of friends before being preserved by a taxidermist.
He said internal organs were salvaged and DNA was submitted to what he described as the Cornell Veterinary Biobank DNA Laboratory.
According to Stewart, the resulting report found the specimen was "58.5% Neanderthal and 41.5% human," adding that "what we're dealing with is honestly groundbreaking."
Asked whether an autopsy had been performed, Stewart said he initially kept the discovery secret because he feared "that body would disappear or that I would disappear, to be honest with you."
He said the specimen was later displayed publicly at the New York State Fair, where he claimed about 60,000 people viewed it, and that a Japanese documentary crew and representatives of New York's Six Nations tribes had also examined the evidence.
Confronted with skepticism over the alleged discovery, Stewart dismissed critics, saying, "Those people are idiots. A lot of them are flapping their lips from behind a computer screen." He added that many visitors who viewed the specimen "left that area completely changed," and that some who had reported previous encounters "came out crying."
Stewart also argued the find points to a surviving population of Bigfoot rather than a lone creature.
He claimed larger footprints were found near the body and theorized the young male died after "an altercation with another Bigfoot" while attempting to approach a dominant female.
"This is not Harry and the Hendersons. This is not some Hollywood movie," Stewart said. "These things can kill. These things are very violent."
Stewart concluded by citing primatologist Jane Goodall, saying, "She said if Bigfoot was out there, it would be a remnant Neanderthal. And that's exactly what we got."
Host Rob Astorino closed the interview by describing himself as "a little bit of a doubting Thomas" while calling Stewart's claims "so interesting" and saying "a lot of people are interested in it."
