Jacob Reses, the chief of staff to Vice President JD Vance, is leaving the administration by summer's end, NBC News reported.

Reses, who started working as Vance's chief of staff in January 2025, has been on the vice president's staff since he was elected senator in Ohio in 2022.

"Jacob's been by my side for my whole career in public life," Vance told NBC News.

"I can't imagine having been on this life-changing journey without him. From day one of my time as a Senator-elect, I could not have asked for a more loyal and discerning adviser and friend as my chief of staff. I'll miss him dearly, but he won't be far, and I plan to keep his counsel close until our paths cross again."

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles told the news outlet that Reses "has been an important part of our White House leadership team and has served the Vice President with absolute distinction."

"From diplomacy and war, to complicated matters, to the most minute logistics, there has been no task too big or too small for him to tackle," she said.

It's unclear what Reses' future plans will be, though a source close to Vance told NBC News that it would not be surprising if Reses returns to the vice president's office at some point.
