Iran's national soccer team left behind a handwritten message invoking the nation's ancient heritage and calling for peace among nations as it departed Los Angeles following a hard-fought World Cup draw, according to Mediaite.
After Saturday's scoreless match against Belgium at SoFi Stadium, Iranian players left a note in the locker room thanking the city and supporters who backed the team through a turbulent opening week of the tournament.
"From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast," the note said, according to Mediaite.
"We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with dignity.
"Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality.
"And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice, and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes.
"May peace, respect, and friendship prevail among all nations."
The message offered a striking contrast to the political tensions and logistical hurdles that have shadowed Iran's World Cup campaign from the outset.
Mediaite reported the note was discovered after the team departed the stadium following the tie with Belgium, a result that kept Iran unbeaten and in contention for a spot in the knockout rounds.
The Iranian team has spent much of the tournament navigating travel restrictions and operating from neighboring Mexico, crossing into the U.S. for matches before returning to its base.
Iranian coach Amir Ghalenoei has publicly criticized those arrangements, saying his players faced unusual challenges compared with other teams competing in the tournament.
Yet the locker-room message made no mention of politics, disputes, or grievances.
Instead, it focused on national pride, gratitude, and a plea for peace.
For a team that arrived amid uncertainty, the final words it left behind in Los Angeles were not about conflict or diplomacy.
They were a simple appeal that "peace, respect, and friendship prevail among all nations."
