Iran Weighs Targeting Musk Assets Across Mideast

Iran on Thursday said the U.S. and Israeli militaries' use of Starlink and the X social media platform, along with Elon Musk's alleged cooperation with the U.S. government through the Starshield program, justifies adding his assets to a military target list.

"The inclusion of all interests related to economic holding companies managed by Elon Musk in West Asia, including Arab countries and Israel, in Iran's new target bank is currently under review," Iran's state-run Fars News Agency said in a translated report.

"This move follows what Iranian officials say is proven use by the U.S. and Israeli militaries of infrastructure managed by Elon Musk, including Starlink and the X social media platform."

Fars reported that Iranian officials are considering adding Musk-linked assets and infrastructure across the Middle East and Israel to a military target list.

The report stated that Starlink ground stations "located in the occupied territories" of Israel, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman, along with SpaceX shareholders and the infrastructure of Alpha Dhabi and Mubadala, are among the targets being considered by Iran.

Fars cited "an informed source" as saying the U.S. military, with support from companies linked to Musk, committed war crimes, including attacks on water infrastructure in southern Iran.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to attack all facilities associated with holding companies managed by Musk in the region and in the occupied territories," the source added.

The report argued that SpaceX's military and intelligence work for the U.S. government effectively makes Musk's business infrastructure part of the American war effort.

SpaceX has become a major contractor for the U.S. military and intelligence community through its Starshield program, which is designed for government, intelligence, and defense customers. Starshield focuses on Earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads.

Militaries have increasingly turned to Starlink since Ukraine's extensive use of the network following Russia's 2022 invasion, according to Reuters. In May, Reuters reported that U.S. suicide drones guided by SpaceX's Starlink network were being used in the conflict with Iran.
