The U.S. military launched an 11th consecutive night of strikes on Iran on Tuesday as Washington and Tehran continued to battle for control of the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Central Command said its forces began striking military targets at 7 p.m. EDT Tuesday, or 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in Iran, but did not immediately identify the targets.

The latest wave came after President Donald Trump signaled U.S. attacks would intensify.

Several explosions were heard west of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, the country's semiofficial Tasnim news agency reported. It was not immediately clear what had been targeted or whether the explosions were linked to the U.S. operation.

Air defenses were also activated in Tehran to confront what Iranian outlet Nour News described as "hostile" targets. The report did not identify the targets or say whether any had been intercepted.
