Trump: '1,000 Missiles' Ready if Iran Tries Assassination

President Donald Trump warned late Friday evening that the United States has "1,000 missiles" prepared to strike Iran if Tehran carries out an assassination attempt against him.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran," adding that "thousands of more" would immediately follow if the Iranian government acted on what he described as repeated threats to assassinate the sitting U.S. president.

"Orders have already been given, and the U.S. Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran," Trump wrote, ending the post with, "PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!"

The warning came hours after Trump told the New York Post he had previously instructed advisers to launch an overwhelming military response if Iran were to successfully assassinate him.

"I've left instructions - if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they've never seen before," Trump said, while dismissing reports that Israel had uncovered a new Iranian assassination plot targeting him.

"I've been on their list for a long time."

Trump has repeatedly linked the threats against him to the January 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, a top commander in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials have long warned that Tehran has sought revenge for Soleimani's death.

The Justice Department announced in late 2024 that it had disrupted an alleged Iranian murder-for-hire plot targeting Trump before the presidential election.

Federal officials have continued to cite Iranian threats as a significant security concern.

Despite his warning, Trump indicated earlier Friday that diplomatic contacts with Tehran would continue.

In a separate Truth Social post Friday, he said Iran had requested to continue negotiations, adding that while the United States agreed to further talks, it had informed Tehran "in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!"
