Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has emerged as one of President Donald Trump's most trusted Cabinet members, serving not only as the nation's top public lands official but also as the president's go-to manager for some of his highest-profile initiatives, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The former North Dakota governor has become a constant presence alongside Trump as the administration celebrates America's 250th anniversary, overseeing projects ranging from restoring monuments in Washington to advancing the president's "energy dominance" agenda.

According to the Journal, Burgum frequently travels with Trump, receives multiple phone calls from the president each day, and provides daily photo updates on renovation projects across the nation's capital.

Trump recently presented Burgum with a signed poster praising his work after the Interior secretary helped oversee improvements to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

"He's a builder," Burgum told the Journal of Trump. "He would think that as the leader of the world, you ought to have the most beautiful and safest capital."

Beyond beautifying Washington, Burgum chairs the National Energy Dominance Council, giving him broad authority to coordinate domestic energy production across the federal government while reducing regulatory hurdles for oil, gas and other energy projects.

His influence extends well beyond the Interior Department.

The Journal reported Burgum accompanied Trump to meetings on Capitol Hill, toured Washington golf courses the president wants redesigned, and joined him aboard the administration's new Air Force One during a visit to North Dakota for the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, a project Burgum championed while serving as governor.

The library visit underscored Burgum's importance to the administration, with Trump making him one of the central figures in the event.

Burgum is expected to accompany Trump again on Independence Day at Mount Rushmore, where the president will deliver remarks as part of the nation's semiquincentennial celebration.

Burgum, a former technology entrepreneur who built Great Plains Software before selling it to Microsoft, endorsed Trump early in the 2024 Republican presidential race after ending his own White House bid.

Since then, his loyalty has earned him a place among Trump's closest advisers, helping oversee everything from public works projects to energy policy while serving on the National Security Council.

The Journal reported Burgum hopes to remain in the administration throughout Trump's second term, while some White House allies believe he could eventually take on broader responsibilities.
