More than 100,000 consumer fireworks sold nationwide have been recalled just ahead of Independence Day because of defects that could cause explosions and burn injuries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.

The recalls affect two fireworks products manufactured by Winco Fireworks International and sold through Pyro City stores and independent fireworks retailers across the United States.

The larger recall covers about 87,120 Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake fireworks devices, which regulators said can tip over during use, "posing a risk of serious injury from explosion and burn hazards." The affected fireworks were sold nationwide between January and May for about $6 to $8 each.

The CPSC said consumers should stop using the recalled fireworks immediately and return them to the retailer where they were purchased for a full refund. Refunds will be provided either in cash or through the customer's original form of payment.

The agency said no injuries involving the recalled Unity fireworks have been reported.

In a separate recall announced the same day, the commission said about 13,500 Winco Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-Pack Firework Devices also are being recalled because they can malfunction.

According to the commission, the fireworks "can blow out the side of the tube, posing a risk of serious injury from explosion and burn hazards." The recalled Roman candles were sold nationwide between April and June for about $17 to $19.

Consumers who purchased the recalled Roman candles also are advised to stop using them immediately and return them to the retailer where they were purchased for a full refund, the commission said.

No injuries involving the Roman candles have been reported.

Winco has instructed consumers with questions about either recall to contact the company directly for additional information regarding returns and refunds.

The recalls come as millions of Americans prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, traditionally the busiest holiday of the year for consumer fireworks.

The CPSC recently reminded consumers to follow basic fireworks safety precautions as the nation celebrates its 250th Independence Day. The agency advises users to read and follow all instructions, keep spectators at a safe distance, never allow young children to handle fireworks, and never attempt to relight or pick up fireworks that fail to ignite properly because they can ignite unexpectedly.

The American Pyrotechnics Association has estimated that consumer fireworks generated about $2.2 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, reflecting continued demand for backyard celebrations. Industry officials have said sales could climb even higher this year as communities across the country mark the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Federal safety regulators routinely announce fireworks recalls involving products that fail to meet federal safety standards or present hazards during normal use. The CPSC urges consumers to report unsafe products and remain alert for recall notices, particularly during the peak summer fireworks season.
