President Donald Trump wrote Wednesday morning that Iranian officials insist "no tolls, no insurance costs & no other charges of any kind" are being sought for ships traveling in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a Truth Social post, Trump pushed back on what he described as inaccurate media reports suggesting Iran was seeking to impose new costs or restrictions on commercial shipping through the strategically vital waterway.
"Iran has informed the U.S. that, despite troublemaking Fake News reporting to the contrary, there are 'NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS, & NO OTHER CHARGES OF ANY KIND BEING SOUGHT OR RECEIVED BY IRAN ON SHIPS TRAVELING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ,'" Trump wrote.
The president added a warning that any misinformation on the issue could jeopardize ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran.
"If this is false information, negotiations would end, immediately!" Trump said.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important maritime chokepoints, with a significant share of global oil and natural gas shipments passing through the narrow channel connecting the Persian Gulf to international waters.
Any threat to shipping traffic in the region can quickly rattle energy markets and raise concerns about global supply disruptions.
Trump's comments come as his administration continues negotiations with Iran following months of heightened tensions and military confrontation.
Administration officials have maintained that diplomatic efforts are aimed at securing long-term stability while preventing Iran from threatening regional security.
The president also rejected reports that the United States had provided new funds to Tehran.
"Additionally, no money has been given to Iran, or released from their money to them, by the U.S.," Trump wrote.
Instead, Trump said the administration plans to use Iranian funds currently under U.S. control to purchase American agricultural products for humanitarian purposes.
"We will be releasing some of their money, that is totally controlled by us, to our Farmers and Ranchers, for the purchase of Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, and more," Trump said.
"Food is desperately needed in Iran, and we will be purchasing it for them exclusively from the United States."
The proposal could provide a boost to American agriculture while addressing food shortages inside Iran without directly transferring cash to the Iranian government.
