New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat, announced this week that "roughly 6,600" non-citizens were added to her state’s voter rolls "between June 2023 and June 2024."

She tried to blame a state vendor by calling it a "software error."

However, within hours of the governor’s statement, IDEMIA, the software vendor for the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, issued its own statement saying it was the state’s responsibility to verify voter eligibility.

"The voter registration information is transmitted to the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Elections, which is ultimately responsible for verifying eligibility to vote," the statement said.

"Information submitted by IDEMIA must still be validated and adjudicated by the Division of Elections."

Sherrill also tried to minimize the damage.

"Our preliminary analysis shows fewer than 400 individuals who were newly registered for the first time because of the error voted," she added. "They were registered as Democrats, Republicans and Unaffiliated voters and were scattered across the state."

Nevertheless, each of those 400 illegitimate votes cancelled out a legitimate vote. Whether it was a Republican voting or a Democrat, their votes no longer counted because of the opposing illegal vote.

And talk about bad timing. Although Sherrill knew about the error last week, she held off making her announcement until Tuesday.

On the day before the governor’s statement, a U.S. District Court judge issued a ruling that MeidasTouch News described as "another Trump loss."

"A federal judge has DISMISSED the Republican National Committee’s lawsuit seeking to force New Jersey to hand over sensitive voter roll data," MeidasTouch reported.

"U.S. District Judge Georgette Castner ruled that the RNC lacked legal standing to bring the case, finding it failed to show how withholding the requested records caused a concrete injury or impaired its stated efforts to increase voter participation."

Castne was appointed to the federal bench in 2022 by former President Joe Biden.

If this ruling was truly "another Trump loss," who was the winner?

Marc E. Elias, who served as general counsel for Hillary Clinton's failed presidential campaign, had an idea.

"In a win for voters, a federal judge Monday dismissed a lawsuit brought by the Republican National Committee (RNC) seeking to force New Jersey to release sensitive voter data," he said.

But how can that decision be "a win for voters," when 400 votes cast by legitimate Pennsylvanians were cancelled out because of 400 opposing votes cast by non-citizens?

But it is a big win for illegal voters. I’ll give him that.

Scott Presler, a conservative activist known for organizing grassroots voter registration drives and community clean-up events, found something positive to say about the Pennsylvania illegal vote discovery.

"Thank you for proving that non-citizens are BOTH being registered to vote & voting in our elections," he said.

And yes, it's yet another instance of "that thing that Democrats say never happens" happening yet again.

Longtime journalist Geraldo Rivera didn't see any real problem with the 400 illegal votes.

"The 400 wrongful votes cast in New Jersey for president had no impact on the 2020 result," he said. "Biden won the Garden State in a rout with a margin of more than 700,000 votes."

However, the non-citizens were added to the rolls between June 2023 and June 2024.

Rivera also seemed to believe that the real issue was the fact that President Trump condemned the illegal voting.

"Still, it is just substantive enough to refuel the president's obsession with 'rigged elections.'"

That still ignores that the ballots of 400 Americans were negated.

The more times this happens, the more likely it is for qualified voters to think, "why bother when some foreigner will just cancel my vote."

The SAVE America Act would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for federal voter registration, and photo ID before a voter casts a ballot.

Senate Democrats argued this week that "It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in the United States. They face prosecution and jail time for doing it. The SAVE America Act attempts to solve a problem that does not exist."

That's like saying department stores don't need theft protection because shoplifting is already illegal.

Given Sherrill's admission that at least 6,600 non-citizens had registered to vote in New Jersey, and that at least 400 had already voted, the RNC should appeal Judge Castner’s decision to the Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Justice Department should file its own lawsuit seeking access to the voter rolls.

And finally Senate Republican leadership should get off their duff and pass the SAVE America Act.

Whether they do it piecemeal or all at once, whether it's passed as a standalone bill or attached to a spending bill, it has to get done.

Otherwise this is going to be repeated again and again.
