Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is in the news for her views on protecting women’s sports. Michael, on today’s Editors episode, points out that even though Cunningham “didn’t lay down any crazy vitriol” or “say anything about trans insanity or madness,” vicious and gaslighting headlines such as “‘Sophie Cunningham can’t stop talking about trans athletes’” are showing up.

Michael reminds listeners that this is “literally the media soliciting your view and then punishing you for sharing it candidly while burying what you actually said.”

Michael notes that “Sophie Cunningham . . . talked about protecting women, and given the role she plays on her team with Caitlin Clark . . . Cunningham has acted almost like a hockey enforcer.”

“If someone puts a very unfair or flagrant foul on Clark that isn’t called by the refs or isn’t officiated properly,” Michael says, “Cunningham usually comes out and finds a way to put that person on the floor.”

“So yeah, she deserves her title as a defender of women, in both ways.”

The Editors podcast is recorded on Tuesdays and Fridays every week and is available wherever you listen to podcasts.
