This week brought a slate of new Democratic congressional nominees that make AOC seem like a red-blooded patriot. Darializa Avila Chevalier, a socialist from New York’s deep-blue 13th congressional district who is poised to join Congress next year, even once bragged about using the American flag as a napkin.

Sadly, in this pivotal moment in history, not only is the left radicalizing around candidates who would like to bring about the destruction of our great country and all it stands for; elements of the right are engaging in the sort of anti-American conspiratorial talk once reserved for devotees of Noam Chomsky.

In the face of this threat, National Review remains unapologetic in defending America, recognizing that it has been the greatest moral force for good of any nation in the history of the world.

To support our efforts, we are holding a webathon to coincide with the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.

So far, we have raised about $40,000 toward those efforts — and are asking for your help to get to $50,000 by midnight so we can keep up the momentum as we head toward the holiday week.

Any amount you can give, from $5 to $1,776 or more, would be greatly appreciated. And as a special offer, those who give $250 or more will receive a copy of Rick Brookhiser’s new biography of Lafayette (to ship when it publishes on June 30), the French gentleman and hero of two revolutions who helped deliver us from British rule into independence.

Thank you again, and Happy (Almost) Independence Day!
