Congress could just let the housing legislation come into effect and throw their own party and media availability for it. Trump has said he won’t sign it, but he hasn’t indicated he’ll veto it either.
While I don’t expect the 21st Century Road to Housing Act to be transformative, it is bipartisan legislation aimed at the public’s top concern: affordability. The White House did work on it, and I would bet that there’s a certain someone who has been doing tough work on the Iran deal who would also love this administration to tie itself to legislation aimed at making family formation and home-buying more accessible, even if at the margins.
