Hope Walz, the daughter of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, sparked criticism on social media after posting a Christmas Eve message in which she offered holiday wishes to illegal aliens she claimed were being “terrorizing” targets of federal immigration enforcement.

In a video shared with her followers on Christmas Eve, Walz, 24, addressed what she described as communities affected by immigration enforcement actions, along with other groups she said were struggling.

“I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all. Today I’m holding our neighbors that ICE has been terrorizing near and dear to my heart and sending them all the love and light as well as all the unhoused folks — just anybody that may be struggling right now I’m holding very close to me and I hope you can all do so as well,” Walz said in the clip.

She concluded the message by adding, “This year has been a tough one for all of us.”

The video drew a wave of criticism online, with users accusing Walz of ignoring the impact of illegal immigration on American citizens.

Some commenters argued that her message failed to acknowledge victims of crimes associated with illegal immigration or Americans facing homelessness.

“Of course, Hope completely ignores the American victims of illegals,” one critic wrote.

“Too bad she doesn’t care about unhoused Americans,” another added.

A third commenter wrote, “Yes, holding all of our unhoused military age men from the CCP Iran, Pakistan Afghanistan just hold them there and to your heart.”

The remarks came amid ongoing federal immigration enforcement activity in Minneapolis.

Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have conducted operations in the city, targeting hundreds of Somali nationals who are in the country illegally.

Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota, is home to an estimated 80,000 people from Somalia.

Those enforcement actions followed disclosures involving alleged large-scale fraud within the Somali migrant community.

According to the Minnesota Department of Human Services, scammers allegedly carried out fraud schemes that cost Minnesota taxpayers an estimated $1 billion.

The activity was uncovered during Gov. Walz’s tenure and became a major issue in state politics.

Hope Walz is a licensed social worker and maintains a large social media presence, with more than 555,000 followers on TikTok.

She became a nationally recognized figure after her father was selected as the 2024 running mate of Kamala Harris.

Since then, she has used social media to comment frequently on political issues and has been openly critical of President Donald Trump.

Last month, President Trump criticized Gov. Walz in a Thanksgiving message, accusing the governor of allowing tens of thousands of Somali immigrants to take over what he described as Minnesota’s “once great state.”

In that same message, President Trump used a derogatory term to describe the governor.

Hope Walz responded to those remarks in a TikTok video that was later deleted.

“The president calling my dad what he did has unleashed a f**king sh*t storm regarding offensive language towards me and my family and specifically my brother,” she said in the video.

Earlier this month, Walz announced she would temporarily step away from TikTok, citing safety concerns.

She said she had received threatening messages and no longer felt it was “safe” for her to remain active on the platform. She told followers she planned to return around Christmas.

Her Christmas Eve message marked one of her first public posts since that announcement.

The video quickly circulated beyond her usual audience, drawing renewed attention to her views on immigration and federal enforcement.

The governor’s office has not commented publicly on his daughter’s remarks or the reaction to the video.

Immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota have continued, and federal officials have not indicated whether additional actions are planned in Minneapolis or elsewhere in the state.

As debates over illegal immigration, enforcement, and public spending continue at both the state and national level, the comments from a high-profile governor’s family member have added another flashpoint to an already contentious issue in Minnesota politics.
