Zohran Wants to Remove Mayor Koch’s Name Off His Bridge

New York City’s communist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, wants to remove the late mayor Koch’s name from the Queensboro Bridge (59th Street Bridge). Zohran said he doesn’t like the way Ed Koch handled the AIDS crisis.
Mayor Koch was Jewish, as it happens, and was possibly gay.
The Jim Owles far-left Democrat Club, an LGBT club, wants Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the City Council to revoke the honor after making a commitment to cancel Koch as a condition of its endorsements due to the club’s perception that Koch mishandled the 1980s AIDS crisis.
There was no cure for AIDs in the 1980s. The only cure was for personal responsibility. Mayor Koch called for gay people to avoid the bathhouses. What was wrong with that? At the time, it’s all you could do.
Koch was great fiscally and very highly respected by Democrats and Republicans for his competence and principled leadership.
I live in New York and didn’t realize his name was on the bridge. Everyone around here just calls it the 59th Street Bridge or the Queensboro Bridge.
When he was running for mayor, Mamdani said, “Yes, I support renaming,” when he filled out the club’s questionnaire.
Apparently, many politicians agree with this. Really? Why? Koch did a fine job.
“We’re putting that list together right now, but it includes [New York Attorney General Letitia] James, State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, one, two, three, four, four New York City borough presidents, numerous members of Congress, and assembly members, senators,” Roskoff said.
I would just as soon name nothing after individuals, especially if the name is historic. However, this bridge was named in Mayor Koch’s honor shortly before he died at age 88.
When Koch passed away, many New Yorkers looked back at video clips of him waving and yelling, “Welcome to my bridge!” at several passing vehicles—including a livery cab transporting current Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
It became a ringtone.
Mayor Bloomberg led the renaming in 2011.
This is what the New York City ‘leaders’ spend their time doing.
