Elon Musk and Donald Trump
(The Center Square) – Three in four Americans are paying attention to the work of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency led by billionaire Elon Musk, and nearly one in two support the effort, according to new polling.
The poll of 1,000 registered voters from Napolitan News Service found that 75% of American voters are following DOGE’s efforts to reduce federal spending, with 36% following very closely and 39% following somewhat closely. Just 23% said they are not following closely, with 1% unsure.
“Voters are paying more attention to news about DOGE cutting government spending than about the wars in the Middle East and Europe,” Napolitan said in a statement accompanying the poll results.
When asked about the work DOGE has done so far, 47% of those surveyed said the department either hasn’t gone far enough (27%) or it’s work has been about right (20%), with 39% saying it’s gone too far and 13% unsure.
A clear majority, 59%, support returning 20% of the savings realized under the DOGE expense cuts to taxpayers in the form of a “DOGE dividend,” with the remaining 80% used to reduce the federal budget deficit and national debt. Twenty-two percent of those surveyed oppose the idea
“Republicans overwhelmingly support it, while Democrats are evenly divided,” Napolitan said.
