Shabir Ahmed is a “depraved paedophile,” in the words of the MP for Rochdale, and the ringleader of a Pakistani Muslim grooming gang, who because of a loophole in the British law will not be deported back to Pakistan. It’s a maddening story, that cries out for parliament to enact legislation to remove that loophole. More on Shabir Ahmed, the moral monster who, if nothing is done to change the law, will remain free in the UK after his release, which took place on July 2 and may give him the chance to renew his grooming career, can be found here.

A grooming gang leader cannot be deported back to Pakistan despite being stripped of his British citizenship due to a loophole in legislation.

Shabir Ahmed is set to be released from prison on Thursday but is unable to be deported due to a provision in the act that exempts Commonwealth citizens who arrived in the UK before 1973 from removal.

The 73-year-old was jailed back in 2012 for multiple rape and child sexual offences in Rochdale.

However, due to the policy in the Immigration Act 1971, Ahmed has lived in the UK long enough to qualify for the exemption.

Ahmed was identified as one of the nine men from Rochdale and Oldham who were found guilty of exploiting girls as young as 13 at two takeaway restaurants in the Heywood area of Rochdale.

He was convicted at Liverpool Crown Court in August 2012 of two rapes, aiding and abetting rape, sexual assault and trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation….

That means for committing two rapes and sexual assaults, as well as “aiding and abetting” rapes and sexual assaults by others, Bashir Ahmed has served less than fourteen years. That’s a sentence that in this country is handed down for robbery.

It was previously revealed Ahmed was employed as a welfare rights officer by Oldham council….

Just think of that: a serial rapist of young girls who was employed as a “welfare rights officer by the Oldham council.”

As well as facing strict curfews and restriction zones, his every movement will be tracked, forced to wear an electronic tag. Should he breach his conditions, he will be immediately locked up.”…

How likely is it that Shabir Ahmed will stay away from young girls now that he’s out of prison? Why, he might even make his wearing of an electronic tag a way to gain sympathy. And he could still, tag and all, seduce young girls and even ply them with drugs in exchange for sex, before the police got wind of it.

The inquiry said it will look “in detail at what happened in a specific place, including how children were identified and protected, how organisations responded, how victims were treated, and what needs to change”….

Yes, let the inquiry look into the police, who for so long did nothing about the grooming gangs because their fear of being called “racists” and ”Islamophobes” outweighed their concern for the girls being harmed. And the child welfare officers must also be investigated — did they not notice any changes in the behavior of the vulnerable young girls whom they were supposed to be looking after? Awful thought: the child welfare officer in charge of these particular girls may have been Shabir Ahmed himself, when the Oldham council employed him as a welfare rights officer.

Sir Sadiq Khan said it was important “no stone is left unturned” as the inquiry sets about its work.

The Labour mayor previously came under fire for suggesting there was no indication of rape gangs operating in the capital and that the issue in London was different from other areas.

Sir Sadiq said: “It’s really important that we have the victims and survivors at the fore of our minds.”

My, how the mayor has changed his tune. For several years, Sadiq Khan (pictured above) has claimed that there was no evidence of grooming gangs in London. But as the mountain of evidence piled up to undermine his claim, he has at long last had to admit that yes, after all, there are grooming gangs in London.

But let’s end by returning to that law of 1971, that provides a loophole for Commonwealth citizens who came to the UK before 1973. They cannot be deported. That’s why Shabir Ahmed, and others like him, will be able to remain in the UK.

Do not allow this “depraved paedophile” who served less than fourteen years in prison for repeatedly raping English girls remain in the UK. Repeal that 1971 law, for god’s sake. PDQ. And then escort Shabir Ahmad onto the Pakistani International Airlines plane that will take him where he belongs: to Karachi, or Lahore, or Islamabad.
