Multiple dead as police officers are shot in Pennsylvania

Multiple people have reportedly died after police officers were shot in Pennsylvania in what's been described as a 'very active scene.' 

Schools and hospitals in the York County area have been locked down as emergency crews respond to the 'officer-involved incident.'

Dispatch calls suggest there have been multiple fatalities. 

At least two officers have been airlifted and multiple are being treated for injuries.  

Details about the shooting are still emerging but officials said the first 911 call came in at 2.10pm.

A series of following calls included one that said 'officer down' and 'signal 13,' which means an officer in trouble. 

Governor Josh Shapiro released a statement online shortly after the incident saying he is on his way to the area, and 'We ask those in the area to please follow the directions of local law enforcement and PA State Police.'

One officer is critically injured and two were in need of basic EMS help, Penn Live reported.

Meanwhile, Spring Grove School District is having all schools in the area shelter in place.

The district made it clear that the officer-involved situation is not related to students or schools. Wellspan Hospital is also on lockdown, the facility told CBS 21.

The Daily Mail contacted the Pennsylvania State Police for comment.

Congressman Scott Perry also posted, sharing: 'Pray that everyone is safe as this unfolds.' 

Lieutenant Governor Austin A. Davis shared the same instructions with the public, also posting online: 'Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County. 

'As we learn more, follow all guidance from police and stay away from the area.' 

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday told the public to follow all law enforcement instructions, adding that his is 'en route to the area' and 'praying for all involved'.
