Not Even Donald Trump Can Get Roger Clemens into the Hall of Fame
President Trump on Sunday posted multiple statements on Truth Social, urging the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Classic Era Committee to induct Roger Clemens. Trump repeatedly praised Clemens as one of the greatest pitchers the game has ever seen.
It was all for naught.
It’s clear the President finds accusations against Clemens when it comes to the steroid era to be a parallel to ridiculous accusations coming from his political opponents.
“Roger Clemens, who won 354 games, went through his own Witch Hunt. HE WAS ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES!” the President wrote. “If he doesn’t get into the Hall of Fame, he should sue the hell out of Major League Baseball!”
He again criticized the treatment of Clemens in a follow-up post.
“It was the Obama DOJ (of course!) that viciously went after the great Roger Clemens. ROGER WAS FULLY ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES!” Trump reiterated.
Trump has argued in favor of Roger Clemens all alongPresident Trump has been arguing on behalf of Roger Clemens for some time now.
Clemens has long been suspected of having indulged in performance-enhancing drugs (PED) during his playing career. The President, however, is not buying into that and, following a golf outing with Clemens’ son, Kacy, over the summer, made his feelings crystal clear.
“Roger Clemens was easily one of the few Greatest Pitchers of All Time, winning 354 Games, the Cy Young Award seven times (A Record, by a lot!), and played in six World Series, winning two!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform.
“He was second to Nolan Ryan in most strike-outs, and he should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, NOW!”
And you know what, he is right. I absolutely hate saying this because steroid cheaters should be punished in some manner. But the fact is, they were still playing within the rules set out by MLB at that time. They technically weren’t guilty of anything. MLB can’t pretend to hold the higher ground.
And it’s impossible to determine who is worthy and unworthy in the steroid era. Pitchers like Clemens were facing roided up monsters in the batter’s box. Everyone at that time was seeking an advantage.
It shouldn’t come down to sports “reporters” deciding who gets in and doesn’t.

It didn’t workRoger Clemens has previously thanked President Trump for his support.
“I appreciate the love! [The President] knows more than anyone the fake news that’s out there,” Clemens wrote on X. “Everyone has their agendas … I played the game to change my family’s direction generationally and to WIN!”

But it didn’t change the direction of the voters.
Despite Trump’s intervention, Clemens received fewer than five votes from the 16-member committee, falling short of the required 12 for induction. Similarly, Barry Bonds, another player linked to steroids, also failed to gain entry. As a result of this latest rejection, both Clemens and Bonds will remain ineligible for consideration until 2031.
Clemens previously hit back at critics by emphasizing his focus on winning and family, noting he never tested positive for steroids. The two-time Triple Crown winner was also acquitted on six counts of lying to Congress in 2012.
In reality, there is no definitive proof, such as a positive drug test, that Clemens took steroids.
