Rory McIlroy Shares Heartwarming Moment With Wife and Daughter After Second Irish Open Win

Rory McIlroy celebrated an emotional moment with his wife, Erica Stoll, and their five-year-old daughter, Poppy, after the professional golfer secured his second Irish Open title on Sunday.

McIlroy won the European Tour event in 2016 by three strokes, but had a more exciting path to victory this time around. The tournament, held at The K Club in Straffan, Ireland, saw him defeat Joakim Lagergren in a playoff after sinking a 28-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole.

Talk about a dramatic moment in golf. That putt has to be up there with some of the best we’ve seen this entire year. McIlroy would go on to defeat Lagergren with a birdie on the third playoff hole.

The victory marks McIlroy’s fourth of 2025, following his Masters win earlier in the year, and continues a career-defining season for the Northern Irish golfer.

His wife and daughter joined him at the scorer’s tent for a heartfelt reunion.

Rory McIlroy and his Wife Celebrate, Putting a Difficult Past Behind Them

The emotional reunion with wife and daughter comes just 16 months after McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll and kicked off a very turbulent time in the couple’s relationship.

The five-time major championship winner shocked the golf world when he filed for divorce from his wife last May, doing so in a rather cold manner.

McIlroy signed the divorce papers while competing at the Wells Fargo Championship. He won the tournament by five strokes over Xander Schauffele, and a day later had a private investigator hand his wife the papers on his behalf.

The proceedings were called off rather quickly.

“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together,” he told The Guardian. “Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

Career Grand Slam – What a Year!

Rory McIlroy has been on a journey of new beginnings in more ways than one.

He won the 2025 Masters, completing the career Grand Slam by securing all four major golf championships, a feat achieved by only six golfers in history.

That win also came in dramatic fashion, also in a playoff. McIlroy entered his name into the record books after a playoff against Justin Rose on the 18th hole at Augusta National, marking his first Masters win after 17 attempts.

McIlroy’s emotional triumph followed a challenging final round with two double bogeys. He missed a relatively short, relatively straight putt on 18 that forced the playoff in the first place. Fans of Rory, who had struggled in recent years to get over the hump, were likely feeling the pressure themselves while cheering on their guy.

But Rory showcased his resilience, hitting an incredible second shot on that same hole in the playoff to within four feet. This time, he didn’t miss the putt.

Now, instead of being associated with near misses and faltering in the spotlight, McIlroy, as evidenced by that eagle putt in the Irish Open, is Mr. Clutch.

A happily married Mr. Clutch.
