Lane Who: CFP Quarterfinals Recap

We started with 12 teams and now we're down to just four. It wasn't the best day of College Football Playoff games we've ever seen, but we ended things with a bang and have two absolute wars set up in the semifinal round.

Here's how it all went down:

Oregon 23, Texas Tech 0

Man, what an absolute snoozefest of a game. Texas Tech turned the ball over four times and failed to register a single point as Oregon slowly plodded along and refused to ever really put this thing away until the very end. The Red Raiders were somehow technically in it for most of the afternoon despite their best chances to score probably being by their defense.

Even the Ducks' rushing attack wasn't able to do anything against TTU's elite run defense, so they had to throw the ball all the way down the field to put points on the board. But for all the talk of the Tech defense, Oregon's defensive unit just went out there and either forced a punt or took the ball away every time it was on the field.

You have to feel great about that performance as an Oregon fan. The only issue is the Ducks have to play the other Big Tn team that played on Thursday.

Indiana 38, Alabama 3

What else can you say about Curt Cignetti and Indiana? I thought Alabama was going to give the Hoosiers all they could handle and it would be harder to be on a more dead horse from start to finish.

Bama was simply never in this game. Indiana was more physical, more prepared and executed on nearly every drive with surgical precision. Fernando Mendoza was awesome, Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby ran all over the Crimson Tide, the IU defense was nearly perfect. Even in a world where we know Indiana is a better football team than Alabama, a result like this is still shocking to the system.

This was the first time in the 21st century Alabama has lost a football game by 30 points or more. What Cignetti has done in Bloomington might honestly be the best coaching job in the history of the sport.

Ole Miss 39, Georgia 34

After watching two nothing burgers for most of the day, we deserved the all-time classic we got in New Orleans.

Ole Miss went into halftime down nine points thanks to a scoop and score from Georgia late in the first half, but came out of the locker room ready for a fight. Even when it seemed like the Bulldogs were going to somehow find a way to escape by the skin of their teeth again, Trinidad Chambliss and Co. took the ball at the end of the game and put their balls on the table to set up a game-winning field goal.

I know Indiana had the Heisman Trophy winner and Oregon has a projected first rounder too, but I'm not sure Chambliss wouldn't be my first choice of signal callers if I was starting a team of the players remaining in the CFP. The guy just finds a way to make a play every time his team needs one.

I'd say the early returns on the Lane Kiffin divorce are decidedly in favor of Ole Miss.
