Prince William's net worth through the Duchy of Cornwall stands at around $1.6 billion, making him wealthier than King Charles, and he has contributed more than $26 million in taxes since assuming the title of Prince of Wales, newly released figures have revealed.
The figures confirmed for the first time that William, the future king, is wealthier than his father, with a net worth of about $1.6 billion through the Duchy. The prince received a private income of $28.5 million in 2025-26, according to the latest Duchy accounts.
By comparison, Charles was listed in the Sunday Times Rich List as having a personal fortune of $844 million - an increase of almost $40 million from the prior year. This follows reports of Prince Harry's staggering net worth - and how it compares to his brother William.
The disclosure came as accounts for the Sovereign Grant - the Treasury funding used by the royal household to finance official duties - were published, alongside details of the King's personal wealth from the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall, which Prince William inherited upon becoming Prince of Wales.
In a move toward greater financial transparency regarding royal funding, both the King and William have disclosed their personal tax contributions. Records indicate William paid $10.2 in income and capital gains tax in 2024-25, and $11 million in 2023-24, reports the Mirror.

This comes as it emerged that William has decided he will no longer personally profit from the contentious $2 million annual rent generated by the now-abandoned Dartmoor Prison.
William has requested that the sum be removed from the multimillion-pound income he receives as heir to the throne from the Duchy of Cornwall from 2026-27 onwards, and that the funds be redirected toward revitalizing the local community instead.

In 2024, it emerged that the duchy signed a $49 million deal in 2022, before Charles became King and William the Prince of Wales, to lease Dartmoor Prison to the Ministry of Justice, paying $1.9 a year over 25 years, along with a deal with the Ministry of Defense to permit the armed forces to train on Dartmoor land.

However, the category C prison in Devon has sat vacant since July 2024 after elevated levels of radon, a toxic gas that occurs naturally in soil and rocks and can cause lung cancer, were detected in prisoners' accommodations.
A community-driven regeneration fund is set to launch next year, aimed at delivering social, economic, and environmental benefits to Princetown, the remote rural town situated adjacent to the prison.
The prince's private secretary, Ian Patrick, said, "Prince William knows that for many people in Princetown, the prison has long been part of the fabric of the community. Its closure has created genuine uncertainty, not just about jobs and businesses, but about the future of the town itself.
"The duke felt strongly that, while those questions remain unanswered, the benefit of this income should remain in the community, helping local people shape that future."
As heir to the throne, William is entitled to the annual profits from the billion-pound Duchy landed estate, which spans 51,800 hectares across 19 counties. He assumed the role of 25th Duke of Cornwall nearly four years ago.
